Merida, Yucatan. 2019
body / ruin / nature
Young artists of Yucatan, exhibition 2019.
Curated by Víctor Fernández and Nahomi Ximenez.
Facing the space (in constant change), an artist internalizes the affections produced by this encounter and produces an effect: a painful mark on the body, a landscape of a ruin, a mask that internalizes nature.
In this exhibition of young artists of Yucatán (2019), we will find bodies in tension in awaiting rupture with the performance: "Who's next?" by Natael Cáceres and Ahilyn Cortés. Marks that are lost from the everyday and masks that cover the face of the lost nature in the graphic work of Mauricio Collí, Aldo Cauich and Natalia Polanco. The symptom of anxiety repeated until pain becomes matter, in Karemy Briceño's installation. Spaces full with nostalgia for what was and will cease to be in the prints of Juanjo Dziu, Erick De Gorostegui's oil paintings and Antonio Cuk's documentations. Vestiges and foundations with which our urban and cultural environment are constituted in the sculptures of Gabriel Niquete and Armando Cortes and in the photography of Sandra Rubio and Eduardo Méndez Lázaro. The suspense of the fragile becoming of matter in the three-dimensional piece by Francisco Pechan. The remnants of nature in the watercolors of Cristina Rodriguez and the small pieces of René Cauich. The physical damage and the constant mark as a fundamental element of change in the sculpture/trophy of Bianca Abugannam and the prints by Jesus Jasso.
Young artists, working with their respective techniques and media, interpret, revalue and
align diverse modes of contemporary views, beyond any assumption of artistic historical continuity. What we have is a diversity of views that respond to different timelines of an unstable present.
