Reynosa, Tamaulipas, November 25, 2023.

Exploring the Tamaulipas border through the arts is the goal of the exhibition Destellos en el lindero, which brings together works by Amauta García, Calixto Ramírez, Isaac Torres, marcelaygina, Nahomi Ximénez, Rolando Jacob and Yolanda Leal.

Curated by Gemma Argüello, Rolando Jacob and Beto Díaz, the project seeks to address the concept of border and its implications in the state of Tamaulipas. The group of selected works reflects on the border and the limit, the transit of bodies and how they live the border, identity, work and industry, as well as the ways in which architecture and landscape are transformed by migratory movements.

The border is not only a territorial limit, but a space that modulates or restricts the free transit of people between countries. These limits, created by states, can be marked through the landscape, such as the Rio Grande River that separates Tamaulipas from Texas, or by barriers or walls, such as a large part of the border between Mexico and the United States.

The ways in which this border space is experienced affect the identity and bodies of the people who inhabit or cross it, through the jobs, food, landscape, as well as the dynamics one encounters. people who inhabit or cross it, through work, food, landscape, as well as the dynamics one encounters.

This project seeks to approach from the arts to the notion of border, to understand more about the ways in which it shapes and transforms those who inhabit and cross it.

Destellos en el lindero also includes a program of public activities, which has the intention of building bridges between people and the exhibition.

"As a Reynosa artist I have a commitment to produce projects that can be seen by my community and connect with them, it is a pleasure to collaborate with the Tamaulipas Institute for Culture and the Arts (ITCA), through the Reynosa Cultural Park in this project," said Rolando Jacob.

"There are several artists and projects in the arts that have reflected on the border, but very few that focus on the Tamaulipas border, which has particular characteristics. Therefore, this is an attempt to explore it through the eyes and work of some artists," added Gemma Argüello.

"It is important that museums include in their programming projects that talk about themes that are close to their audiences. I am very pleased, as a Tamaulipan, that cultural institutions are open to these proposals, especially given the scarce educational offerings that exist," she added.
