"Human beings are not interested in reality, they cannot be, it is part of their human essence. their human essence. They have desires and these desires are totally opposed to any form of reality. any form of reality. They prefer to deceive themselves rather than divorce themselves from their desires".
Alexandre Kluge
LATER NOSTALGIAS.(Collection I- Cacti) is the first series of a series of sculptures by Nahomi Ximenez that together make an installation. These ceramics represent a selection of
cacti and succulents that are in danger of extinction. The interest in creating these objects
lies in the nostalgia for the near future in which these plants can only be seen as objects of exhibition, static gardens, and as objects of exhibition, static gardens and landscapes that will not come.
We live in the Anthropocene era and the Earth still has a beautiful variety of species.
species, however, in 2007 the UN warned that every day 150 species become extinct on the planet, today, this number is increasing.
I research, I draw sketches, then I make clay sculptures, they are made from the earth in which these species originally grow when they are originally grow these species when they are alive. In the process of creation I mix earth and water and then complete it by burning it with fire. I inquire about the species that are in danger of extinction and then I make my own version of them, in order to show objects that will be part of the to show objects that will be part of a collection of nostalgia for a world in which future generations will see a world in which future generations will see these plants in the same way that we see dinosaurs.
One of these pieces has been shown in the 1st Biennial of Biodiversity of Mexico, in Cancun, 2019.
